YouTube subscribers

A YouTube subscriber is an account that has clicked Subscribe on a channel. Subscribers see your uploads in their Subscriptions tab, get notification-bell pushes if they opt in, and count toward the platform's monetization milestones.

Key subscriber thresholds:

• 500: first Partner Program tier (fan funding, Super Chat).
• 1,000: full monetization (ads), required alongside 4,000 public watch-hours or 10 million Shorts views.
• 100,000: Silver Play Button.
• 1,000,000: Gold Play Button.

Subscriber count is also the first social-proof number a new viewer sees. Most brand deals, speaking gigs, and audience-growth multiplier effects begin compounding in the 10k–100k band. Paid subscriber services are most often used to cross thresholds faster; sustained retention comes from publishing cadence and topic focus.
